PRIVACY RULES: How it changes with war, getting status of EU candidate and GDPR for Ukrainian-refugee projects

On July 26, during an online event, together with international experts in personal data protection, we discussed the following issues:

How GDPR and/or national rules of EU countries influence Ukrainian and other Pro Bono projects?

What is the role of privacy during the war, the price of disclosure, and transfer of personal data?

How can we defend our personal data according to EU, USA, and Ukrainian legislation?

Can digital felonies like database hacking or DoS attacks be considered war crimes?

Personal data at war: protection, changes, myths

On June 16, during an online event, together with invited experts, we debunked the myths and fears of users of digital services regarding the fate of their personal data during the war.

During the broadcast, we:

- explained what has changed in the field of personal data protection in connection with the martial law;

- clarified the issue of whether the state can use its services for "surveillance", as well as whether IT projects can transfer user data independently or at the request of the state;

- debunked myths about total surveillance of the population.

And most importantly, we presented our "MyPrivacy" project.

European Pro Bono Portal

Justice tech company Paladin partners with Ukraine’s Legal Development Network and LinGo - Legal Innovations NGO to launch European Pro Bono Portal for help with urgent legal, translation, and humanitarian needs.

Through the experience, clients who need legal assistance will be able to connect with the LDN team and relevant resources through their online chat box and chatbot, Pravoman. If the client qualifies for pro bono assistance, the LinGo team will match them up with a pro bono lawyer through Paladin to facilitate the work directly.

Legal Design Jam 2.0

Last weekend, the participants of the hackathon developed a bunch of incredible projects. A total of 7 teams were formed at the event and two won:

😸 PravoKit — they came up with the idea of creating a special browser extension that will help you easily deal with the Tax Office.

🟡 PAC — developed a system of gamification of the process of adaptation of people who are just starting their career in a particular field or have changed their work collective.

During the Legal Design Jam, everyone present was able to hear simple but important truths, and most importantly understand — there is so much to learn in life and this is an incredible thrill!

CryptoLegalise 2021 👾

On September 8, the Verkhovna Rada supported the legalization of cryptocurrency in Ukraine and adopted the Law on Virtual Assets. In general, the law provides for a comprehensive regulation of legal relations arising in connection with the circulation of virtual assets in Ukraine and defines the principles of state policy in this area.

During an impromptu discussion at Telegram, we discussed the most important aspects of the law and answered all the questions related to virtual currencies. Perhaps there were those among them who did not give you peace all this September? Watch the video to find answers with us 😉

Legal tech in university 🏛

Learning legal folders has long been more than just a fantasy, and more and more Ukrainian universities are developing entire courses on innovation in law. So this year at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" also launched a new course - "Legal Innovation", in the creation of which also participated and the community Kyiv Legal Hackers!

During the course, students will learn a variety of topics, such as design thinking in legal practice or what are electronic transactions, and the pairs themselves will conduct using the platforms MIRO and ZOOM.

Winners of the Innovating Justice Challenge 2021 ⚡️

So who won the Innovating Justice Challenge 2021 Ukraine?

Clarity App - helps to do a more fair business with the state-owned companies and SMEs by providing an easy-to-access practice of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.
Legal Design - makes complex legal documents simple, concise, and clear for SMEs and people.
Consultant - helps people to get legal help in a few clicks and only from proven professionals.

Now the teams start the four-month-long acceleration program. In February 2022 they will also have an opportunity to compete for additional grants of up to € 20 thousand at the Innovating Justice Forum.

Innovating Justice Challenge 2021 and Pitch Event were supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.

We held a fantastic Pitch event, the local final of the HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge 2021. Three teams that will be invited to the global HiiL Justice Accelerator program will be announced soon.

For the sixth year in a row, Ukrainian projects have joined the Innovating Justice Challenge 2021, an international competition for startups that solve legal and justice issues of citizens, and small & medium-sized businesses.

Results of the project #InnovateLegalAid

The half-year-long Project #InnovateLegalAid has reached the end. But some developed products will continue the journey.

We believe that it will be possible to improve access to justice in Ukraine due to the introduction of innovations in the Legal Aid system. So, do representatives of the Ukrainian Legal Aid system that developed eight prototypes of solutions. Together with the private and public sectors, will continue to work on the implementation of developed decisions and the search for new ones

Prototypes presentation event #InnovateLegalAid 💥
